چکیده
IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING MAGAZINE [146] NOVEMBER 2007 T his IEEE Signal Processing Magazine (SPM) forum discuses signal processing applications, technologies, requirements, and standardization of biometric systems. The forum members bring their expert insights into issues such as biometric security, privacy, and multibiometric and fusion techniques. The invited forum members are Prof. Anil K. Jain (Michigan State University), Prof. Rama Chellappa (University of Maryland), Dr. Stark C. Draper (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Prof. Nasir Memon (Polytechnic University), and Dr. P. Jonathon Phillips (National Institute of Standards and Technology). The moderator of the forum is Dr. Anthony Vetro (Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, and associate editor of SPM). Our readers may agree or disagree with the ideas discussed next. In either case, we invite you to share your comments with us by e-mailing avetro@ merl.com or SPM_columns_forums@ yahoo.com.

Application of Signal Processing Tools for Fault Diagnosis in Induction Motors-A Review-Part II
The use of efficient signal processing tools (SPTs) to extract proper indices for the fault detection in induction motors (IMs) is the essential part of any fault recognition procedure. The 2nd part of this two-part paper is, in turn, divided into two parts. Part two covers the signal processing techniques which can be applied to non-stationary conditions. In this paper, all utilized SPTs for n...
متن کاملSemantic Fusion for Biometric User Authentication as Multimodal Signal Processing
Today the application of multimodal biometric systems is a common way to overcome the problems, which come with unimodal systems, such as noisy data, attacks, overlapping of similarities, and nonuniversality of biometric characteristics. In order to fuse multiple identification sources simultaneously, fusion strategies can be applied on different levels. This paper presents a theoretical concep...
متن کاملDamage detection and structural health monitoring of ST-37 plate using smart materials and signal processing by artificial neural networks
Structural health monitoring (SHM) systems operate online and test different materials using ultrasonic guided waves and piezoelectric smart materials. These systems are permanently installed on the structures and display information on the monitor screen. The user informs the engineers of the existing damage after observing signal loss which appears after damage is caused. In this paper health...
